<image:caption>Another, closer view of the third station in it’s pre-1913 configuration. A young couple pose for the photographer in their Edwardian best, whilst a gaggle of paper boys look on in amusement. A bowler hatted man stands next to a US Mail package box, the first models of which were introduced in 1894 by the Van Dorn Ironworks of Cleveland. Behind it is a Dormeus style post mounted letter box introduced in 1889. Originally, letter boxes were designed to be attached to lampposts, and were painted blue or red, which led to confusion with police and fire call boxes. By this time however, both letter and package boxes had been repainted olive green to avoid this issue, and would not be painted blue again until 1957.</image:caption>

This inset of a 1835 map by Ahaz Merchant, builder of the C&N, shows another line running across the Columbus St. Bridge, site of the famous "Bridge War" between Cleveland & Ohio City residents. Brakemen ride on the back of each gondola car to control their descent down Columbus St., from the aptly named Gravity Place. The bridge was built by James S. Clark, a backer of the Cleveland & Newburgh, and designed by architect Nathan Hunt.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The Death of the M. Staker: The Barge Muskoka. Montreal, Quebec, ca. 1910. The cylindrical structure on the barges deck is a donkey engine, a small steam winch used by later-day sailing vessels to help hoist sails and rig tow lines. It is the origin of the popular shanty and lumbering song “Riding on A Donkey”. Many vessels such as this were part of the thriving lumber trade that eventually shifted from America to Canada due to deforestation. (Alpena County Public Library)</image:caption>

The two building were built of different materials and during different periods but had the same use, confusing later historians. A small stove pipe, now gone, is just barely visible jutting from the rear of the brick building. (Cleveland Press Collection, Michael Schwartz Library, Cleveland State University)</image:caption>
